with michele marco rossi

An opportunity for composers

A one-day contemporary composition workshop for cello solo. The opportunity of working with one of the most prominent Italian contemporary cellists. And the possibility of having a piece performed during a solo concert that focuses on today’s latest works for this instrument.

The workshop is organized by Barco Teatro and Taverna Maderna, two musical and artistic associations based in Padova, Italy. It is open to composers from all over the world, without any limits of age or nationality, and it aims to select a new solo cello piece to be included in Michele Marco Rossi’s solo concert scheduled for next March 27th, 2022, at Barco Teatro. Born in 1989, Michele Marco Rossi already gave more than 100 first performances and Italian premieres of new music. With a vast solo repertoire and together with ensembles and chamber music groups, he has been performing new works by composers from all over the world and of different generations including Ivan Fedele, Lucia Ronchetti, Fabio Vacchi, Alessandro Solbiati.

How does it work?

The workshop will take place on Friday, February 25th at Barco Teatro, via Orto Botanico 22, Padova, from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 14.00 to 19.00. Admitted participants will have the opportunity to interact with the soloists, to discuss and rehearse different instrumental techniques, to work on their piece’s strengths and weaknesses and to receive feedback from a prepared contemporary instrumentalist. After the workshop a committee composed by the artistic directors of Barco Teatro, Giacomo Susani (composer and guitarist), Alessandro Tommasi (organizer and musical critic), and by Michele Marco Rossi himself will select one piece that will be performed during Rossi’s solo concert, on Sunday, March 27th at Barco Teatro.
